Lame Dux

So December has rolled around and 'quel surprise' so has another announcement from Hucast, namely that the 'new' scrolling shooter for the Dreamcast, Dux, has had it's release date put back again. (It was originally supposed to be issued in July...)

This latest delay announcement came with the following message:

"Another Delay
18.12.08

As the trailer shows DUX has almost reached its final state. So the game itself is pretty much finished but it takes more time to get the game run flawlessly on the Dreamcast - that's the main reason why this game has yet to be released. Currently it's not easy to give an exact release date so you can expect the game early next year.

We hope everyone who has a pre-order for the game is not discouraged by the many delays and understands that we want to make and release an flawless product."

Well I'm afraid I am very "discouraged" by the latest delay. Developers Hucast were quick to take my pre-order money when I was expecting a new Dreamcast game back in July. I don't understand the complication. Of course I wouldn't want a flawed game, but contrast the development process with that of the very slick Redspot Games who delivered us 'Last Hope' and 'Wind And Water Puzzles'.

Personally, I now couldn't give a flying fuck whether or not Dux comes out. I've written off the cash I assigned as a down payment, and any enjoyment I might have had from the game has been forever tainted by the bullshit and bollocks spewed forth from the turds at Hucast.

Sorry if this seems unfair/unreasonable, but it's how I feel. Bah! Humbug!!!

  1. The delays since July put me off pre-ordering it, personally. I'll most likely buy it when it eventually comes out, though. A shame it gets being pushed back, but you gotta remember this isn't a big video game studio. Not that it makes things any better..

  2. Maybe they could offer us an extra freebie, something special to those guys that preordered. A Tshirt? I dunno, I would say I am bored of waiting, but now a DC game is coming out in 2009 :)

  4. I'm certainly not spending £18 on a game. I'm looking forward to the (hopefully) soon-to be-released Giana's Return:

  5. I really looked forward to this game. considering I didn't care for last hope,Dux seemed like a lot of fun and quite diverse as a shmup. But these delays are just a tad annoying to say the least. I mean if it didn't run flawlessly, why set up the pre-orders? why not at least release a free demo, then when it's at 100% DONE, sell it. I'm pre-orddering the limted edition off play-asia, but this is getting ridiculus. I bet age of the beast will be out before this, or maybe even DRILL(J/K)!

  6. I'm still looking forward to this game. I have a huge game backlog of stuff I've been wanting to finish/need to finish, and thanks to this delay maybe I'll get a few more cleared out and can dedicate some time to this when its ready for release! I hope they don't can it all together due to people being infuriated by this. The people interested in new Dreamcast games gets smaller by the day, so they really need as much positive hype as they can get.

  7. They should set a release date and stick to it. Not "New Year", "January" or anything like that, but say something like "1st March". Give us a free soundtrack or something else. I can't even remember what I ordered!! It was so long ago...

  8. Nice use of the term "flying fuck" there, FK. Most commendable! That shooter looks pretty decent too, I can see why people may be a little frustrated waiting for it.

  9. The constant delays are what's put me off this game too. I'll pick it up fro Play-Asia if or when it comes out.

  11. Ah man.

Now that I think about it I am a bit pissed off.

How can they put a pre-order on a game that hasn't been fully ported to the system yet?

  12. I've been a bit negative recently haven't I?

  14. I can't explain some reactions.

Considering the fact that Dux is being developed b a small, amateur team, how can you have such a level of expectation from them?

I'm sure they are doing their best to make the game the better they can, so you should give them support (as well as pre-order it, like I did).

When you can play it, the waiting will be over you and only the enjoyment of having a new Dreamcast title will stay.

Be patient and don't forget to support these small teams the best you can, otherwise there won't be new Dreamcast games in the future.

By the way, don't forget Giana returns, as well as Rush Rush Rally Racing and Age of the beast (by Senile team) will come anytime soon, too.

Well I personally think that you CAN expect a bit of pressionality even from hobby developers. redspotgames titles are released in an accurate and professionally manner.

HUCAST simply are upsetting a lot of gamers in many ways... talking about a LE at a time when even the normal edition isn't out... collecting money for preorders before the game it out... talking about yet another too tight release date... and everything I read from Rene at the SHMUPS forums sounds so freaking arrogant that I can't stand it.
