Dreamcast 2 Internet Rumors Still Persist.

*Edit*

Just to be clear I don't think Sega is going to make a new console. I just thought it was funny that people are still posting these videos.

All the patents filed pretty much cover existing Dreamcast technology. I am assuming that Sega simply doesn't want a third party to be able to rush in and use their tech.

In the past Nintendo let some of their patents expire and that is why we have all those different "Retro Duo" consoles that can play NES and SNES games.

So very pathetic that these crop up every so often. It is not going to happen, end of story. Of course, the loser running the YouTube channel continually tries to defend it and claims it's going to happen.

Shame people are out there spreading these lies, and that there are people who believe it.

Oh god how I wish it were true, but I am confident that it's all total rubbish. After all, I'd rather SEGA stayed just making software and doing well rather than taking another plunge into the console market and dying forever, that would never do. If sonic were to die, mario would get fat and lazy then end up dying of a crack overdose. Grim stuff.

You have to be pretty damn gullible to buy into these trolls.

FNG Online was found out to be uncredible and a fraud.

While the patents for the controllers were real, I have seen them with my own eyes, this does NOT mean they are for a home console.

I surmise they are for the arcade boards they came out with almost 2 years ago.

As one of the biggest Dreamcast fans, I TRULY want it to happen, but the logical 27 year old I am tells me it is never going to happen.

As much of a dreamcast fan as I am, Sega is not the same company it was 10-12 years ago. In fact, they haven't made a game I've enjoyed since Jet Set Radio Future. I don't think a second dreamcast will do anything to help the situation.

Patents don't always mean they are going to use them any time soon or at all, just means they want to keep a hold of the idea just in case. For example the one of the 3D Saturn controller is more or less what they had planned to do with the controller at some point, the part that connects the controller to the wire even pops off like in the patent.

As for "to be used for stand alone video game machines", that can mean not just consoles like they are implying but arcade machines, derp!

Also they made a mistake saying the Dreamcast was based on the Naomi 2. It wasn't, the Naomi 1 was based on the Dreamcast (but with more RAM) and the Naomi 2 was far more powerful than the Dreamcast (at least twice) and ran games like Virtua Fighter 4.

The worst part is that mostly come from those nerd fanboys who actually never owned a Dreamcast :/

Yeah it's pretty funny that people are still posting these. I suppose I should have made it clear in the post that I don't think Sega is actually going to make a new Dreamcast console.

Like Nintendo let it's patents run out and now a bunch of different companies are making rip off NES and SNES clones to play Nintendo video games.

So I can see Sega wanting to protect what little good name it has left so shady companies can run in and create a bunch of Dreamcast rip off crap consoles.

I am sorry, I am probably the only one who feels this way, but why in the world would I want a dreamcast 2 when the first one is still providing me ever so much joy.

Sega could only do one thing if they made a dreamcast 2, ruin the memory of the first one.

Live and let die.

SEGA WAS AWESOME WITH DREAMCAST, BUT IT WAS TOO ADVANCED FOR IT'S TIME AND PEOPLE DIDN'T LIKE HOW CRAZY DIFFERENT IT WAS COMPARED TO THE OTHER SYSTEMS OUT AT THE TIME. SEGA SHOULD'VE SPENT MORE TIME WITH THE SATURN AND NOT MOVED SO FAST TO THE DREAMCAST. IF THEY WERE TO COME OUT WITH A NEW SYSTEM AT THIS TIME IT WOLD HAVE TO BE SOMETHING THAT NO ONE ELSE IS DOING IN EVERY WAY. BUT I'LL SAY THEY'D BE DUMB TO COME OUT WITH A NEW SYSTEM AT THIS POINT. IT WILL ALWAYS BE PLAYSTATION VS. XBOX TIL THE END OF TIME.

Nintendo didn't let their patents expire. Patents expire after a set period and can't be renewed. Once the Dreamcast patents expire, Sega will be unable to stop anyone from making the Dreamcast hardware. So we definitely could see some knock-offs, like portables or combo systems, once the patents do expire. Could be as early as 2016 or so, depending on when the patents were filed.
