It's really great to know you enjoyed this article and as someone who worked on the magazine this little look behind the curtain is superb :)Tom Charnockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05593308178739317252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19634944.post-3874783481857950152022-08-30T12:58:34.513+00:002022-08-30T12:58:34.513+00:00I worked on Total Control at Rapide Publishing, in...I worked on Total Control at Rapide Publishing, in the role of Senior Staff Writer, helping to launch the magazine in 1998, and working on (if I recall correctly) all but the last two issues, because I was taken back onto Ultimate PC to help with the relaunch of that title, a project that was sadly aborted by the closure of the company in October 1999.

My claim to infamy is that I might have been the first person in the UK to blow up a Dreamcast! We managed to get an early unit imported from Japan so that we could review Japanese import games for the magazine. We were working late one night on a deadline crunch, and at about 3am, sleep-deprived and not paying proper attention, I plugged our shiny (and very expensive) new Dreamcast in without connecting the step-down transformer required to use the 110v Japanese machine with 240v UK mains power. There was a fizzing noise, and cloud of yellow smoke, and a very loud scream of "NOOOOO!" from both myself and my editor Justin. Needless to say I was not very popular at work the next day...

Luckily we managed to get it repaired in less than 24 hours, so we didn't lose much time, but I wasn't allowed to use it again for a long time!

Thanks for your excellent review of our now long-forgotten magazine. Rapide was a great company to work for with some really excellent titles, and I'm still friends with many of the people I worked with there. If only it had had more responsible management I think it would still be going today.Cliff Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15880867997187776515noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19634944.post-42523596600189596212016-04-10T18:15:41.407+00:002016-04-10T18:15:41.407+00:00I never read this magazine but vaguely remember se...I never read this magazine but vaguely remember seeing it in shops back in the day. Some nice coverage of the Dreamcast early on it seems, but like the late issues of Official Saturn Magazine. Animated AFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04550837973910959680noreply@blogger.com
