Dreamcast User Top 100: Vote for your Favorite Games!

As I suggested in the comments some time ago, here's something I've been wanting to set up a big event for the Dreamcast's 10th Anniversary since it's American launch (because 9.9.99 is the date everyone remembers) and here it is. The poll was so big that instead of placing it on the side here where it would look rather ridiculous I've set up a temporary blog for it. You can vote for as many or as few games as you like, and you can also edit your picks too. The poll is open for 30 days.

Take note just reading through the list may take you a while, so wherever you want to pick every game you like or just your absolute favorites is up to you. There's 385 games to vote for spilt across eight polls (because it errored out when I had it as one large poll). That's almost the entire consoles library, Japanese, PAL, American, even indie releases are all included.

The poll will close on 4th September and the results of the top 100 (and the bottom 20, and maybe even the entire 385 if there is enough demand for it, will be revealed on good old 9/9/09. I really hope this becomes the definitive poll of everyone's favorite Dreamcast games anywhere, so the more people who vote the better. Get stuck in!

  2. ...

    What the hell, where is penpen? ;_;

  3. LOL! I hadn't even checked to see if Pen Pen was on there! What are the chances? Well, it gets a vote from me just for being a launch title.

  5. In the Official Dreamcast Magazine Reader Awards 2001 the following were voted Top 10:

    1) Shenmue
    2) Metropolis Street Racer
    3) Soul Calibur
    4) Virtua Tennis
    5) Crazy Taxi
    6) Quake III Arena
    7) Resident Evil Code: Veronica
    8) Sonic Adventure
    9) Jet Set Radio
    10) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

This was a fairly representative top 10 of the time, so it will be interesting to see how it compares to yours, 8 years later.

  6. Why isn't Shikigami No Shiro II also listed as Castle Shikigami II?

  7. Anon: Oh yeah, I forgot it also goes by that name. Oh well.

  8. Unfortunately you cannot edit anything about a poll once people have started voting, there's a few things I would of liked to change (like Project Justice under P rather than M for Moreo! Justice Gauken) but there's nothing I can do about that now, sorry!

  9. Anybody up for a gentleman's wager on the top five? My guess:

    1. Sonic Adventure
    2. Shenmue
    3. Soul Calibur
    4. Shenmue 2
    5. Jet Set Radio

  10. Seeing as I've just voted 12,000 times for Spirit of Speed 1937 - I accept your wager my good man!

  11. I've already participated in this democratic process. Let the victor be announced... eventually!

  12. I don't see Virtual On or Test Drive V-Rally, are they missing on the list?

  13. Those two are under:
    "V-Rally 2 : Expert Edition" and
    "Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram"

  14. Yeah, a lot of the games have different titles for each reagion so you may have to Crtl+F one if you can't find it under the letter you know it by. Personally I think it's hurt project Justice's votes, should of put it's English title first. :/

  15. Oops! Capcom Vs. SNK Pro and Tokyo Highway Challenge 2 are missing. :(

  16. Pro is only 2 characters extra over Capcom vs SNK 1, and I guess you could use the Tokyo Highway vote as for either the first or 2nd.

  17. rez. Rez. REZ. REZ!!!!!

I picked up a working dreamcast from Good Will today for $10 American dollars. What really gets me mad is that I've got the system, tested and verified Mil-CD capable, and my trusty copy of Rez, but no AV cable.

    I could cry.

  18. Sonic Adventure 2 seems be be getting voted above Soul Calibur at the moment, what the hell? Personally it was a good game, but was it really 3rd place good? O_o

  19. Perhaps SonicStadium got a hold of a link to the poll? That's how Twilight became best picture at the MTV movie awards. :(

I'd place SA2 third in nostalgia factor, as it was the biggest release event outside of the console launch. But as a game, I'd place it 9th. There are SO many better Dreamcast games.

  20. This should be an interesting list what with the DC's recent popularity burst and dedciated homebrew following. The new games like Wind and Water might get a mention which would be nice. It would be great to see some of the cult classics get a nod. Games like Bangai-O are getting more and more popular thanks to its' sequel and dedicated following.

  21. I voted for what actually gets played the most; Street Fighter III. T'is timeless.

  22. Half-Life and Propeller Arena FTW!

  23. Anon: Haha, funnily enough those two are not on the list because they never came out..though I guess i could have included them.

  24. Post comments about your favourite games here!

    F355 Challenge:
I hate driving games but I don't hate F355 Challenge. The beautiful handling, perfectly-placed camera angle and interesting tracks make this not only a superior racer but a very satisfying and addictive game, period.

I tried to post this on the main poll page but kept getting an error! Why isn't it easier to comment without an account? If you wanted to sabotage your Dreamcast tribute, you've succeeded!

  25. I voted for Sonic Adventure. No, really I did. Just because its a long-shot doesn't mean I've wasted my vote. Not everyone is going to ignore it in favor of the sequel - which I will admit fixed the original's weaknesses and is a far better game. I'm doing my bit to help it to break into the top 100 and there's nothing wrong with that.
