The Latest JoshProd Games Are Shipping Now

Hello everyone, I'm Jennifer. I've written for just about every blog dedicated to the Dreamcast for as long as these kinds of blogs existed. You may recognize me by my nickname Mickey, or as the person who can't stick with an internet handle. At various times, I've used the internet handles ChickenO, CaptainDread, Lopantu, Bender, MetaFox, MapleSyrup, JenniBee, Jenni or just Jennifer. I'm sure I missed a few. Now I continue my quest to write for all of the best Dreamcast blogs by blogging for The Dreamcast Junkyard. I start my journey here with some good news.

The JoshProd Facebook page has posted news that their latest Dreamcast games to be published, known as session 3, have begun shipping from RushOnGame. These games are those that are produced in PAL Dreamcast style cases. The games that are produced in US Dreamcast style cases are sold by VideoGamesNewYork, and are slated to release on the 31st of July. In addition, the games that are produced in Japanese Dreamcast style cases are sold by Play-Asia, and are expected to be released in August.

If you aren't sure which games are in the third session of JoshProd releases, here's a refresher.
Another World HD is the high definition version of Another World, a cinematic action-adventure platformer by Eric Chahi that influenced many other games. It was originally released in 1991 for the Atari ST and Amiga, and then ported to many other systems around the world. One of these platforms was the Dreamcast. It received a version using the RAW interpreter by cyx, which was ported by myself and GPF, and was given the blessing of Eric Chahi to release for free in 2005. However, JoshProd's commercial version outdoes the free version, as it is optimized for high definition televisions.
Flashback 2: Fade to Black is the sequel to Flashback, the cinematic action-adventure which was the pseudo-sequel of Another World and was published by JoshProd on Dreamcast last year. Fade to Black is presented in first-person as opposed to the third-person presentation of the original. Originally released in 1995 on DOS, this game takes place 50 years after Flashback. In the game, an alien race named the Morphs have taken over Earth. The hero from the previous game, Conrad Hart, must once again save Earth from the alien menace.

The Escapee, originally known as onEscapee, is an action-adventure platformer along the lines of Another World or Flashback, which seems to be a theme for this series of JoshProd Dreamcast releases. It was originally released in 1997 for the Amiga. In the game, the first aliens landed on Earth and ushered in new civilizations, however, able-bodied men disappeared around the same time. A man named Daniel White decides to turn the tides by traversing alien locations, fighting alien creatures, and helping the few other human escapees he has discovered that still survive.
Battle Crust is a vertical scrolling shooting game by Picorinne Soft. The game, which is described as a vertical shooter in the vein of games from the 80’s and 90’s arcade era, was originally released on Windows in 2016 through Steam. As with many games in this genre, there are both normal shots and high-powered charge-shots. In addition, charge-shots may also be used for defense.
Bang² Busters, also known as Bang Bang Busters, was originally an unreleased platformer by Visco, until it became one of the first games published by JoshProd under their former name, Neo Conception International. It was published for the Neo Geo AES in 2010, for the MVS in 2011, and for the Neo Geo CD in 2012. The game is an arcade platformer along the lines of Bubble Bobble or Snow Bros.

These releases complement all of the previous 'new' games for the Dreamcast that JoshProd has released, and we look forward to reviewing all of these titles in the near future.

Great article! I'm really looking forward to playing these once they arrive. I would love it if joshprod would offer empty PAL cases for sale though, they are very close to the originals and I think they could make some money selling them.

I've played Battle Crust a lot on the PC and all I can say is that is an AWESOME old style shooter, with a great soundtrack! I really hope JoshProd will licence and port Picorinne's other masterpiece Infinos Gaiden to the DC as well..

JoshProd posted that the Dreamcast port of Fade to Black is the "PC version with 3D enhancements".

Excellent write up. I will be getting none of these for the $40 each asking price.

Interesting. Just noticed the PAL cases actually do say "Dreamcast" on them, where as they avoid using it on the JP/US cover variants. Wonder what the reason for that is.

Is there a way to download these? I'm willing to pay for them of course, preferably at a reduced price... but I have no use for physical disks. I use my USBGDROM and would love digital versions of certain games...
